We were born to walk, and experience shows that when safe, pleasant walking routes are put into place, people naturally go outside and use their feet.
Why Bike/Walk Routes, you ask? We noticed when we were working on the new 83rd Avenue Bike Route that it is not only going to be great to bike on, it’s also going to be much more pleasant and safe to walk along and across.
Here’s a screenshot of the 83rd Ave bike route plans:
People on bikes have full separation from vehicles, but the street is also much narrower than it was before.
83rd Avenue will become more comfortable and safer to cross on foot, and it will be more pleasant to walk along because of the traffic calming elements that the bike route incorporates.
A great city has people outside, enjoying it on foot and by bike. Let’s create a grid of routes in Edmonton that invites people to get around in safe, healthy ways.
There is no cheaper, faster, more pleasant way to take short and medium trips than the bicycle. We want to see safe, high-quality bike routes in Central Edmonton.
