Help us forge a path to a multi-modal city where people can safely walk, roll, and cycle year round! Paths for People is a volunteer-run nonprofit, that relies on individual donations, grant funding and people power to support our advocacy campaigns and community events.

Monthly donations of just $5 help us tremendously and will directly support our future work and events around the city!

Another cool way to support us – leverage your employer’s ESG program through Bevenity!

Paths for People is now on Benevity! This means that your employer can now support us as a part of their environmental, social, and (corporate) governance program, which is a great way to financially enable us to advocate for active transportation, an important social and environmental issue. Ask your manager or HR department if your company is set up with Bevenity today!

There is strength in numbers. Your support will help to ensure we remain a strong advocate for active transportation in Edmonton and that our members’ voices are heard. Curious about what your donation will be supporting? Here are some recent highlights from our work!

Community Impact

Paths for People is a grassroots organization that gets things done, and we have fun while doing it! Over the last several years, we have run a wide array of successful events – here’s a few key examples.

Activating urban spaces:

On June 7, 2025, we hosted an Open Streets event in the Boyle Street neighbourhood as part of the community-run event, Leagues on the Line. We closed down a stretch of 96 Street near the Quarters LRT station and brought in vendors, food trucks, and games to showcase the space.

In addition, we were proud to join community partners to help activate a brand new urban space, O-Day’Min Park, on November 16, 2025. We contributed to a fun day of activities for people in this beautiful park which was once an expanse of parking lots.

“City Nerd” visits Edmonton:

In July, 2025, we brought in well-known American urbanist and Youtube content creator, Ray Delahanty a.k.a. “City Nerd”, as a featured guest speaker for our 10th year anniversary celebration. The event was a huge success, helped us reach our $10,000 fundraising goal and Ray created a video about the city and his visit – Edmonton: Come for the Mall, Stay for the Urbanism – make sure to check it out!

“A City for Life” with Anna Zivarts:

In September 2025, we hosted Anna Zivarts, a nationally-recognized transportation equity and disability advocate from Seattle and author of When Driving Is Not An Option: Steering Away From Car Dependency, and held three impactful events as part of our ongoing City for Life event series:

  • A policy session for elected officials, community leaders and professionals;
  • A guest lecture with University of Alberta urban planning students; and
  • A public panel discussion, joined by local panelists that represent different nondriver groups.

Advocacy Achievements

Advocacy is at the heart of what we do everyday. We make it our business to be familiar with what is happening on the streets of Edmonton and around the world. We have become a trusted local voice on active transportation and street safety and you will often find us on local TV, radio, and podcasts commenting on these issues. We have gotten to know all of our city councillors and we have had the opportunity to make our voices heard by speaking at City Council and committee meetings or by talking to councillors one on one. We’ve recently spoken on topics that include:

  • Safe speed limits in neighbourhoods
  • Infrastructure design for pedestrian and cyclist safety
  • Snow and ice clearing
  • Renewal projects that improve urban vibrancy
  • Provincial interference in active transportation infrastructure

Missing Links Campaigns

One of our advocacy campaigns that we have been most proud of has been Missing Links, a project where we crowdsourced information from everyday Edmontonians about places in the city with inadequate active transportation infrastructure such as missing sidewalks and disconnected cycling lanes. In our first campaign in 2019, we received over 200 responses from the community, created a map of infrastructure deficiencies and worked with City Administration to action these low cost, high impact improvements. We’re proud to say that this campaign led to dedicated funding and construction to fill missing links across the city!

Because our first Missing Links Campaign was so successful, we brought it back in 2024. This time we received over 250 responses and from these created a new set of case studies to highlight more low cost, high impact projects the city can easily tackle.

Future Impact

Paths for People knows the best is yet to come. Looking ahead, we plan to

  • Find new ways to engage with community members across the city.
  • Continue running small-to-medium sized events, like group rides, bike valets, Open Streets and City for Life.
  • Work on major opportunities in the four year Municipal Budget and the Bike Plan.

This will only be possible by setting up a strong list of donors that can help build up our resources. We are forging a path for a better sity and you can help!
